Ardfert Town | St.Brendans Cathedral | Franciscan Friary | Wethers Well | Casements Fort

(Ardfert Cathedral, including the site of Lord Kerry’s Castle and Round Tower.)

The cathedral of Ardfert is of the 13th century, incorporating remnants of an older, existing, 11th century church. The battlements are a later 15th century addition. It is a fine example of an Irish medieval cathedral.

There are two smaller churches nearby, the 12th century Temple na hOe and 15th century Temple na Griffin. The South Transept has recently been carefully restored and now serves as a thriving visitors centre under the care of Dúchas, the Heritage Service of Ireland.

Recent excavations and restoration work will shed more light on this interesting site and preserve for future generations the majestic cathedral of Ardfert -Brenainn.
