Ardfert Town | St.Brendans Cathedral | Franciscan Friary | Wethers Well | Casements Fort

Ardfert Friary was founded in 1253.A.D. by Thomas Fitzmaurice, according to The Annals of the Four Masters.

The building has fine rows of lancet windows at its south and east walls. In the 15th century, a transept and lofty tower were added. Within the friary walls is a magnificent cloister, though incomplete now is still an impressive sight.
There are some fine early grave-stones, said to be of the Earls of Kerry(Fitzmaurices) and their ancestors. A number of the Crosbie Family are also buried here. The famous poet Thomas Moore enjoyed a vist to the place in his day.
